With the arrival of her daughter, Rowe finished her “Fertility Figures.” Beginning as a ‘peace’ suite they soon took on a whole additional context. Rowe and her husband had wanted a second child and at the same time had gone into her studio to create a suite of sculptures. After completing the final piece she discovered she was pregnant with her daughter whom they named Galatea which derives from Greek mythology. Galatea was the statue created and loved by Pygmalion who was then brought to life by Aphrodite. With this suite Rowe celebrates the human form and the body is its entirety is embraced. As one studies closely each piece is the physical manifestation of such emotions as love and desire, trust and faith.
